STEEL COLLECTION GOBOS
For many years GOBOLAND has been known for the production of excellent quality glass gobos. GOBOLAND has now created an exciting new range of Steel Collection gobos, the standard of which is unparalleled.
The GOBOLAND Black Steel Collection gobos are designed to give you high definition, and long lasting projections of images. They are coated with a heat-resistant black coating which will not burn or peel off under extreme heat. This ensures the gobo will perform better in performance conditions, reducing the risk of image distortion caused by heat. The coating minimises internal reflection, which produces a crisper image projection and eliminates any halo effect.
The new technology was introduced at PLASA 2007 and was awarded the 2007 LDI Award for ‘Best Debuting Product’. It is produced with no extra cost to the customer. Black gobos will gradually supersede the uncoated steel gobos across the whole of the Steel Collection. Custom designs are produced in the new material with immediate effect.
The Black coating has also been applied to GOBOLAND’s new Black Holes, also launched at PLASA. This high-tech donut sharpens gobo projection by removing excess light and lengthening depth of field. It also has a blackened surface which helps reduce unacceptable reflections in front of the luminaire.
The Black Hole is marked with pop-out stops – equivalent to 1 to 4 photographic stops – to enable accurate calculation of between 50% and 94% of light reduction. By eradicating the less effective outer parts of the beam to concentrate on the optically efficient centre, there is little visible drop off in the brightness of the beam. The additional benefit is the resulting lengthened depth of field which makes it easier to sharpen a projection across the full width of the image area, even when projected at an angle. This makes it ideal for keystoned images in architectural, retail, corporate and art applications.
Black Holes are available in four sizes to cater for most lanterns on the market.
GOBOLAND have introduced this innovative process to meet the demands presented by the high quality optics of today’s lanterns. GOBOLAND has a patent pending on the use of the black heat resistant material in gobo production.
- The majority of GOBOLAND black steel gobos are etched on 0.2mm (0.008") stainless steel, as opposed to the 0.125mm (0.005") used commonly by other gobo manufacturers. This includes sizes such as the A, B & E used in standard 'profile' lanterns. The use of thicker steel offers improved heat resistance and greater durability within a high temperature lantern.
- GOBOLAND's black steel gobos are designed with notches spaced around the edge to include a top notch allowing for easy rotational adjustment in all profile lantern gobo holders.
- GOBOLAND's standard 'E' size gobo is suitable for moving lights as well as profiles as it has been designed with suitable thickness of metal, and image size.
- GOBOLAND Black Steel Collection gobos are designed primarily for the 'best selling' B-size image size. This allows for exceptionally fine image detail and unobtrusive 'bridges' (where required) for each design. Smaller sizes of gobo are sensitively redesigned to make them suitable for reduced image sizes. The simpler versions are viewable on-line so you see any variations prior to purchase.
- Every single GOBOLAND Black Steel Collection gobo is available on glass. As an industry first, the glass versions of our designs are recreated with the glass gobo manufacturing process in mind, with any 'bridges' being removed.
- GOBOLAND has employed a logical numbering system for all gobos which utilises a series; category; design number and size.
- GOBOLAND Black Steel Collection gobos are individually packed with a bar code to allow for easy stock taking.
TESTIMONIALS
Erik Larsen, ETC European Marketing Manager:
“We like to use black gobos in our Revolutions to cut down on internal reflection and sharpen the projection. Our trials with black gobos in the past have resulted in a lot of smoke with the painted coating being reduced to powder! The Goboland coating, so far, shows only a slight discoloration in the heat but certainly no distortion of the image. They do exactly what I expected them to do - I can honestly say I like the new black gobos!”
Tom Satchell, T&M Technical Services, Cardiff:
“The black gobos are sexy! We mainly use them in ETC Source 4s where they make a huge difference to reflection. I used a couple of the Collection designs (2 260 066 268 Flower Power) when we were lighting Cardiff in Bloom. These went into moving heads where they performed really well in the hot conditions. I suppose you could say they blossomed!”
Luke Swaffield, self-confessed gobo-lover from Guildhall School of Music and Drama:
“I ordered a few custom made black gobos and I was very impressed. When I took them out of the lantern they remained black and there was no discolouration, They looked so much more sleek than the traditional silver ones. I think all gobos should be black like yours in the future.”
